Halogen ballasted mercury lamp full power
|
Here's the lamp at full brightness. Now the mercury is very dominant, but the halogen still provides enough light for colour rendering. The combined colour temperature is between 4000 and 5000K. My energy monitor showed that at 241V, the lamp pulled 291W and 1.26A with a power factor of 0.96. Which makes me question whether it is truly a 250w lamp. On the whole, I'm rather impressed with these lamps. I wouldn't want to test them in actual street lighting, but as a novelty I quite like them.

0.96 is very impressive, with no capacitor in the circuit either!
Max - It is unfortunate they weren't that popular. It would have been interesting to know how coated versions would perform It kind of depends on where the factory set the cap. On one of the lamps when I screw it in I can get the mercury tube to sit directly above the halogen in the reflector, so an even distribution could be attained. But who would really put enough effort in to do that? Just whack the lamp in and away you go. The seller market them as a grow lamp of sorts which the lamp is better suited to as distribution isn't that important there.
