Light color check of clear mercury vs. underdriven HPI

The picture above shows the aspect of a ColorChecker under white light (left, reference), clear mercury light (center) and the light from a HPI-T Plus 250W run at 185 W (right, see there). Although the HPI emulates the light of the clear mercury lamp very effectively, we can see the effect of the longer wavelengths of the sodium lines and the weak emission in the red from the lithium impurity. Reducing further the power input of the HPI takes care of that though.

Wow that's an excellent result, I certainly wouldn't be able to tell! Does this reduce lifespan? I hear MHs are more sensitive to this but that does look very nice

What a fascinating comparison.! Wonder Mind Blown

That ColorChecker looks interesting, how would I go about getting one..?
Drew   [Sun 01 Nov 2026 at 00:57]
I was looking into that too, they look to be decently expensive! I suppose the colors must all be nonfluorescent, and maybe made of single pigments instead of a cmyk mixture but who knows.

Yes, after I typed the above, I looked them up myself and they are indeed frighteningly pricey Mind Blown

@Drew, I would have said they were indecently expensive.! Mind Blown
